Riders to the Sea – Analysis

In J.M. Synge’s Riders to the Sea, the sea is the primary antagonist and a personified force of fate. For the Aran Islanders, the sea is a "cruel mistress" that provides sustenance but demands human life in return. It represents an inescapable, cyclical tragedy.

The sea’s role is purely destructive; it has claimed Maurya’s husband, father-in-law, and five sons. By the play's end, the sea has "done its worst." Maurya’s shift from terror to a cold, exhausted peace signifies that the sea no longer holds power over her because it has nothing left to take.

The Three Questions – Leo Tolstoy

The Tsar had three questions. The first question of Tsar was how he could know the right time to begin everything. The second question of the Tsar was how he could know who were the right people to listen to, and whom to avoid. The third question was how he might know what was the most important thing to do.

According to the hermit, the most important time is the present. The most necessary man is always the person with whom he is. The most important affair is to do good to the person before him because for that purpose alone man is sent into this life.

Violence and Brutality in 'Hawk Roosting'

In Ted Hughes's 'Hawk Roosting', violence is portrayed as a primordial and divine right. The hawk describes its feet as "hooked" and its actions as "tearing off heads," presenting a chillingly detached view of killing.

The brutality is further emphasized by the hawk's absolute rejection of justification or argument. It states, "The allotment of death / For the one path of my flight is direct," showing that death is an inevitable consequence of its existence.

The Impact of Social Media on Modern Life

In today's digital age, the role of social media has become indispensable. It is profoundly influencing various aspects of our lives. Social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn have created a virtual interconnected world where individuals can easily connect, share, and communicate.

The advantages of social media are evident in its ability to facilitate real-time communication, foster collaboration, and raise awareness on important issues. However, it comes with its set of challenges such as misinformation, privacy concerns, addiction, and cyberbullying.

Striking a balance between the benefits and challenges of social media is crucial for harnessing its full potential in today's dynamic world.

The Importance of Vocational Education

Vocational education means learning practical skills for a specific job or trade, like computer networking, fashion designing, or plumbing. Unlike traditional education, which focuses heavily on books and theory, vocational training focuses on hands-on experience.

In the context of our present educational system, students often graduate with degrees but lack the practical skills required by companies. This causes unemployment. Vocational education solves this problem by providing direct scope for employment. It makes students "job-ready" the moment they finish their courses.

Realizing its importance, the government is providing massive encouragement through schemes like "Skill India" and setting up various Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs). By promoting vocational education, we can solve the problem of unemployment and build a highly skilled workforce that will boost the country's economy.
