đ The Role of the Sea đ
In the play "Riders to the Sea," the sea plays a vital role. The sea is not just a background. It acts like a powerful villain. It is a living character that is always present.
For the people on the Aran Islands, the sea is both a friend and an enemy. They need it to catch fish and earn money, so it gives them life. However, it is also very dangerous. It causes storms and drowns the men of the family.
The mother, Maurya, is very sad because the hungry sea took her husband and sons. The sea shows us that Nature is much stronger than humans. It teaches the family that they must be brave even when sad things happen.
