১. Once upon a time, a poor woodcutter was cutting wood near a riverbank.
একদা এক সময়, এক দরিদ্র কাঠুরিয়া নদীর তীরে কাঠ কাটছিল।
২. Suddenly, his iron axe slipped from his hand and fell into the deep water.
বাংলা অর্থ: হঠাৎ, তার হাতের লোহার কুঠারটি পিছলে গভীর জলে পড়ে গেল।
৩. He sat down sadly and cried bitterly.
সে দুঃখিত হয়ে বসে পড়ল এবং অঝোরে কাঁদতে লাগল।
৪. Seeing his tears, a kind river fairy appeared from the water.
তার চোখের জল দেখে, জল থেকে এক দয়ালু নদীর পরী আবির্ভূত হলো।
৫. She dived into the river and brought out a golden axe.
সে নদীতে ডুব দিল এবং একটি সোনার কুঠার তুলে আনল।
৬. The woodcutter refused to take it.
কাঠুরিয়া সেটি নিতে অস্বীকার করল।

এরপর সে একটি রূপার কুঠার তুলে আনল, কিন্তু সে সেটিও নিতে অস্বীকার করল।
