Summary of A Shipwrecked Sailor

Summary of A Shipwrecked Sailor --Daniel Defoe

On September 30, 1659, Robinson Crusoe was shipwrecked during a violent storm and found himself alone on a deserted island, which he named the “Island of Despair.” All his companions drowned, and he was left without food, shelter, or clothing. He spent the first night in a tree for fear of wild animals. Later, he swam to the wrecked ship and collected food, tools, wood, nails, a gun, and other useful items. He built a tent and fenced it for safety. To keep track of time, he cut notches on a post. He discovered that some corn he had thrown away sprouted into barley, which gave him hope. He explored the island and found fruits, melons, and streams, though he chose to stay near the sea, hoping to be rescued. Crusoe made a lamp, kept a journal, and slowly adapted to island life. A year later, he realized he had survived 365 days alone.
