The Farmer and His Faithful Horse

Once upon a time a farmer lived in a certain village. He had a horse. He used to ride on it everyday. One day it was a stormy night when a farmer was returning home on horseback. The wind roared through the trees, and heavy rain blinded his eyes. He was anxious to reach home quickly, so he urged his horse forward at great speed. Suddenly, the horse stopped and refused to move further. The farmer grew impatient. In anger, he whipped the poor creature mercilessly, but the animal stood still. It was stamping its hooves yet not moving an inch. Hours passed, and slowly dawn broke. To the farmer’s shock, he discovered that the bridge ahead had collapsed in the night. Had the horse obeyed, both would have fallen to their deaths. Tears welled up in his eyes as he stroked the horse’s neck. He regretted his cruelty and realised that sometimes animals understand dangers better than men. From that day, he learnt never to lose patience and to trust his faithful companion.

Moral of the Story:

👉 “Never be cruel to those who are loyal — they may save your life.”

(Patience and trust are greater than anger. Animals, too, have wisdom, and kindness towards them is always rewarded.)
