1. The Simple Sentence

Definition: A simple sentence is a kind of sentence that contains one subject, one predicate, and only one finite verb.

2. The Complex Sentence

Definition: A complex sentence contains one main (independent) clause and one or more subordinate (dependent) clauses. It has at least one finite verb in each clause.

Examples:
  • Because it was raining, we stayed inside.
  • I saw the man who killed the tiger.

3. The Compound Sentence

Definition: A compound sentence contains two or more independent clauses, and they are joined by a conjunction (like and, but, or, so).

Examples:
  • I wanted to go for a walk, but it started to rain.
  • The sun set, and the moon appeared.
