Biography of Sri Aurobindo
A concise glance at the life, work, and legacy of the sage.Sri Aurobindowas one of the greatest philosophers and spiritual leaders of India. He was a freedom fighter, poet and yogi. He was born on 15 August 1872 in Kolkata, West Bengal. The name of his father was Dr. Krishna Dhun Ghose and his mother was Swarnalata Devi.He began his studies in Manchester as a young boy to learn English culture.Later, he went to school in London where he became very good at many languages.Finally, he attended Cambridge University but decided not to work for the British government. He passed the I.C.S. training in 1890 and later served as a professor at Baroda College. He wrote The Life Divine and also composed Savitri. He established the Aurobindo Ashram in Pondicherry in 1926. He passed away on 5 December 1950. He will remain ever in the hearts of millions for his great contribution in the field of spirituality and philosophy.
