Each July 1, on Doctor's Day, India recognises the significant accomplishments of doctors for their efforts towards a healthier society. The day reminds us of the role that doctors play in our lives: their commitment and sincerity from simple treatment of illnesses to saving human lives.
The day is observed as a tribute to Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, a human physician and a distinguished freedom fighter. It was in 1991 that the Government of India recognised this day as the birth and death anniversary of Dr. Roy.
