In the dry desert country of Arabia live the Arab people called 'Bedouins'. This name means 'desert dwellers'. The Bedouins do not cultivate their grounds or grow food. Instead they keep flock of sheeps and herds of goats, camels and horses. As there is very little grass in the desert, they have to wander about in search of fresh food and water for their animals. So they live in tents. Desert country is not all soft sand. In some places there are stretches of various kind of stones. In other places, there are rocky cliffs, quite bare in summer but covered with grass in spring. Near the sea there is just enough rain to allow people to grow corn and fruit trees.
There are also damp patches or ground called 'Oasis' where wild bushes, short grass and few date plants grow.

While trying to reach a point beyond his reach, the string would slip, causing Uncle Podger to lose balance and slide down onto the piano.

The Wise Hermit and the Snake
One day, a kind hermit was walking through a forest when a snake tried to bite him. The hermit calmly advised the snake to give up its harmful nature. The snake obeyed and stopped biting. But villagers began to beat it with stones and sticks. Nearly dead, the snake met the hermit again. The hermit said, “I told you not to bite, but I didn’t say not to hiss.” The snake understood he must show anger to protect himself.
