Key Highlights of the Bengal Budget 2026

  • 38% Dearness Allowance (DA): State government employees will receive 38% DA, which will be effective from this October.
  • Massive Employment Drive: Recruitment for 1 lakh vacant posts has been announced, featuring a 33% job reservation quota for women.
  • Police & Teacher Recruitment: 20,000 new vacancies will be filled in the Police force, along with the recruitment of 50,000 teachers.
  • Allowance Hike for Beneficiaries: Monthly allowances for the elderly, widows, and specially-abled citizens have been increased by ₹500.
  • Honorarium Boost for Civic Personnel: The monthly remuneration for Civic Volunteers and Green Police personnel has been raised by ₹2,000.
  • Salary Hike for NVF & Animal Welfare Workers: Monthly honorariums for NVF (National Volunteer Force) personnel, Pranibandhu, and Pranimitra workers have been increased by ₹2,000.
  • Annapurna Yojana Allocation: A massive budget allocation of ₹36,000 crore has been designated for the Annapurna Yojana welfare scheme.
  • MLA Local Area Development Fund: The MLA fund allocation has been enhanced from ₹70 lakh to ₹1 crore per legislator.
  • Anganwadi & Asha Workers Salary Hike: Monthly wages for Anganwadi and Asha workers have been increased by ₹5,000.
  • Metro & Airport Infrastructure Expansion: New Metro rail connectivity has been announced for Durgapur, Asansol, and Siliguri. Additionally, new airports will be developed in Purulia and Malda.
  • Chingrighata-New Town Elevated Corridor: An elevated traffic corridor will be constructed linking Chingrighata to New Town, modeled after the structure of Kaziranga in Assam.
  • New Major Bridge Projects: Allocation of ₹1,200 crore for the construction of the Bhagirathi Bridge, alongside a new 4-lane bridge over the Mayureswar River.
  • Premier Educational Institutes in North Bengal: Fresh setups for dedicated IIT and AIIMS campuses will be established in North Bengal.
