Stanza 1

Have I to negotiate / it?
Moving / slowly, sometimes throwing my great grief / across its shoulders, sometimes / trailing it at my side

বঙ্গানুবাদ: আমাকে কি এর (ঘাসের) সাথে বোঝাপড়া করতে হবে? ধীর পায়ে চলছি, কখনো আমার প্রবল শোক এর কাঁধে চাপিয়ে দিচ্ছি, আবার কখনো বা সেই শোককে পাশে টেনে নিয়ে চলছি।

Explanation: The poet begins with a question. He wonders if he has to come to term with the grass (which symbolizes nature or the path of life). As he walks through it, he feels burdened by a heavy sadness ("great grief").

Stanza 2

I watch a little hymn / turning the ground / beneath my feet,
a tolerant soil / making its own way in the light of the sun

বঙ্গানুবাদ: আমি দেখি এক ছোট্ট স্তোত্র (প্রার্থনা সঙ্গীত) আমার পায়ের নিচের মাটি ওলটপালট করছে, এক সহনশীল মাটি সূর্যের আলোয় নিজের পথ করে নিচ্ছে।

Explanation: He observes the grass growing and moving in the wind. He compares this movement to a "hymn," suggesting that nature is holy and alive. The soil is described as "tolerant" or patient.

Stanza 3

It is just a Mirror / marching away / solemnly with me, lurching
into an ancestral / smell of rot, reminding me / of secrets of my own:

বঙ্গানুবাদ: এটি কেবলই একটি দর্পণ গাম্ভীর্যের সাথে আমার সাথে হেঁটে চলেছে, টলতে টলতে এক প্রাচীন পচনের গন্ধের দিকে এগিয়ে যাচ্ছে, আমাকে মনে করিয়ে দিচ্ছে আমার নিজের গোপন কথাগুলো:

Explanation: The poet realizes the grass/nature is acting like a mirror, reflecting his own state of mind. The "ancestral smell of rot" triggers memories of his own buried secrets and hidden fears.

Stanza 4

the cracked earth of / years, the roots staggering about
an impatient sensuality, bland heads heaving / in the loneliness of / unknown winds.

বঙ্গানুবাদ: বছরের পর বছরের ফাটা মাটি, শিকড়গুলো টলমল করে খুঁজছে এক অধৈর্য ইন্দ্রিয়পরায়ণতা (কামনা), অজানা বাতাসের একাকীত্বে মাথা দোলাচ্ছে নিরস ঘাসগুলো।

Explanation: He describes the physical landscape, which mirrors his internal aging. "Cracked earth" suggests age and dryness. The roots "staggering" imply a struggle for life or desire.

Now I watch something / out of the mind / scythe the grass...
my hands that tear their familiar tormentors / apart

বঙ্গানুবাদ: এখন আমি দেখি মন থেকে বেরিয়ে আসা কিছু একটা ঘাস কেটে ফেলছে... আমার হাত যা সেই পরিচিত যন্ত্রণাদাতাদের ছিঁড়ে ফেলে...
