Hermit told the Tsar that he had got his answers. In the first step the most important time for Tsar was when he had been digging the ground. It was because he had not to face his enemy. The hermit was then the most important man for him. And the most important occupation was his doing good to the hermit. In the second case the time of attending to the wounded man was the most important time for the Tsar and the wounded man was the most important person for him. The act of doing well to the wounded man was the most important business of his life.

The Tsar‘s second question was who the most necessary people for him were. Now the learned men answered his questions differently. Some said the councillors were the right person. Others said that the tsar should listen to the priests only. Again some thought they were none but the doctors. A few were for the warriors.

Hermit is one of the principal characters of Leo Tolstoy’s story “Three Questions”. He lives in a wood. He is widely renowned for his wisdom. People respect him. He lives a simple life. He has a self-dignity. The ruler of the land, Tsar, holds him in high esteem. He receives only common folk. The hermit is self-supporting. He works alone. He is frail and weak. The Tsar meets him. He has three questions. But he does not give the answer immediately. He wants that the Tsar should himself find his answers. As a teacher he believes in the value of self-teaching. He is a great teacher. He teaches the Tsar to teach himself. He is simple and an ideal human being whose only mission in life is to do good to all mankind.
5. How did the enemy of the King become friend with the king? / Describe the meeting between Tsar and the wounded man.
The Tsar met the wounded man near the Hermit’s hut. The bearded man came out of the wood. He was running towards the Hermit's hut. He fell flat before the Tsar where the Tsar nursed him till he revived. When the man came back to consciousness and realized that the Tsar had saved his life, he repented. He asked for pardon and promised to serve his savior faithfully throughout his life. The Tsar readily accepted his friendship. He forgave the man and promised to restore his property.

Tsar is one of the principal characters of Leo Tolstoy’s story “Three Questions”. Tsar was inquisitive in nature and did not stop until he found solutions to any problem. He even left royal dignity and went to the hermit to find answers to his questions. He disguised himself as a common man. He is also kind in nature. Seeing the bearded man’s pitiable condition, he came forward to save his life. He nursed him till he revived. He followed the hermit’s advice and dug the earth and slept on the threshold of the hermit's hut. When the man came back to consciousness and realized that the Tsar had saved his life, he repented. He asked for pardon and promised to serve his savior faithfully throughout his life. The Tsar accepted his friendship and promised to restore his property.
7. Is “Three Questions” a parable? / As a short story.
“Three Questions” by Leo Tolstoy is a moving story. A parable is a short religious story that gives moral lessons. Leo Tolstoy‘s story may be considered as a parable. As a short story it has only three major characters. The story is related to the three questions of the Tsar who thinks that these questions are basic keys to succeed in life. He was eager to learn the answers. The Hermit gave him the answers based on experience with moral teachings. This spiritual and moral overtone makes the story a parable. From a didactic point of view, it is an excellent short story.
