What is one act play ?

A one-act play is a short play that has only one act — meaning it is performed in a single continuous section, without any breaks into separate acts or scenes like in full-length plays.  Very often a 'one-act play is also a 'one-scene play'.

Key Features of a One-Act Play:

1. Short and Concise

o Usually runs for 15 minutes to 1 hour.

o Has a single setting, limited characters, and focuses on one main conflict.

2. Single Plot

o It revolves around one central idea or theme, and there is no subplot.

3. Unity of Time, Place, and Action

o The action happens in real-time, in one place, and focuses on one major incident.

4. Few Characters

o Typically, there are 2 to 5 characters, making the play easy to follow.

5. Simple Dialogue and Structure

o Since it's short, the language is direct and meaningful, moving the story quickly.
